why does my cable “unpause” if I switch my TV input to play a game, watch movie, etc?

Question by Steve W: why does my cable “unpause” if I switch my TV input to play a game, watch movie, etc?
I have an HDTV with several units hooked up to it via HDMI (Xbox, DVD player, etc.). If I am watching a tv show and want to pause it for a few minutes to play a game, my show has restarted again when I switch back over to TV. This is not the timeout used by the DVR of 45 minutes – I am talking instantly. Also, if I am playing Xbox or Wii and I pause the action to watch TV for a few minutes, the game console in question will reset when I switch back from TV. Hope I am making sense – this situation is driving me nuts! Thanks.

HDMI has a feature called CPC – consumer product control, which may be the cause of your problems. Samsung, Panasonic, and others use different marketing names. You may want to go to your TV’s menu and see if it is enabled or not.
